Michaelhouse, above all, is a community. A community that comprises boys, staff, past staff, old boys, parents, and past parents. Boys become Old Boys and so have a formal life long connection with the Michaelhouse community through the Michaelhouse Old Boys’ Club. Parents may in some way feel less connected to the community as their sons leave and may only regain that connectivity should their grandsons attend Michaelhouse 20-30 years later. Staff are in a similar position as they move onto other roles and become past staff.
The depth of meaning, commitment and love that both parents and staff place on being part of Michaelhouse is sublime; and so creating a formal way for parents and staff to remain part of the Michaelhouse community is right and proper.

It is important to be clear that the SMC is not to represent parents and staff in any official capacity i.e. it is not a parents association
. It is simply to preserve an important connection with the Michaelhouse community that does not diminish as parents and staff become past parents and past staff.
